Cherries For The Cause Event

E.D. Smith Farm owner Llewellyn Smith has a way to put fresh fruit on the tables of people who otherwise couldn’t afford it. He is donating 3,000, 2.5 pound pails of sweet cherries by rallying his customers to follow his lead.

Sweet cherries are in season and over 45,000 people will descend onto the ED Smith Farm to pick their own basket and purchase cherries for their family. Llewellyn and his staff will all pick a pail and donate it to Hamilton Food Share through the “Cherries For The Cause” event. He is hoping that through his example and that of his staff that many of his customers will take a few moments to fill a pail to add fresh fruit as an item given out by the local food banks and hot meal programs.

The owner of E. D. Smith Farm and his employees have created a wonderful opportunity for everyone to give back to their community. As he said, “If you have time he has the cherries”. We urge the Hamilton and surrounding communities to join the fight against hunger. With a few moments of your time you can make a huge difference to a family who otherwise would not have the opportunity to have fresh fruit on the table to feed their families.

Join the crew down at the ED Smith Farm and embrace the community challenge. We are aiming to have 3,000 pails picked, which is approximately 7,500 pounds of fresh sweet cherries. This contribution is estimated at $30,000.00 worth of fruit donated by the hands and hearts of their generous customers.

Cherries for the Cause will take place starting July 5th to July 22nd. For more information on this event please click below to access ED Smith Farms web page about the event.
