Sikh Community of Hamilton’s Food Drive

Sikh Heritage Month Food Drive

Vaisakhi is an important celebration for Sikhs worldwide. It has both a religious and cultural component. Culturally, Vaisakhi is connected to the harvest season in India.

During Sikh Heritage Month in April the members of 3 Sikh temples or gurdwaras in Hamilton honoured the harvest element by holding a community-wide food drive.

Members of Gurdwara Shaheedgarh Sahib Hamilton in Dundas, Baba Bhudhaji Grudwara Hamilton and Dukh Nivaran Gurdwara, also known as the Ramgarhia Association Hamilton collected 934 pounds of food during the month. Their goal was to surpass what they raised last fall, which they did easily.

In 3 food drives held in the last year, the temples have combined to collect 2,227 pounds of food.
