Chuggy’s Scores a Hole in One for Hunger

Chuggy's Golf Volunteers

Chuggy’s owner Rob Kellett knows how important community is to helping people.

Rob remembers what it was like as a child with the Salvation Army leaving a food basket on the porch for his family.

To give back to the community, Chuggy’s holds a golf tournament every year. Called the Tournament of Friends, it is held in honour of Tony DePaulo and Cody Gillespie. Rob credits the tremendous support from 144 golfers, 16 volunteers, 35 sponsors and the excellence of King’s Forest staff for making it possible to raise a large amount of money for Hamilton Food Share, the Cancer Assistance Program and the Coping Centre.

Rob who delivered the proceeds to Hamilton Food Share with volunteers from the tournament in the picture above, says that the “community has done more for us than we can ever give back.”

“Rob and his family do so much for the community, most of which you will never hear about, that’s just the kind of people they are. Many thanks to Rob, his family, especially Noah and the many volunteers that gave so freely of their time to make this donation possible,” stated Joanne Santucci, Executive Director. “Along with feeding hungry people, the tournament pays tribute to the lives of Tony DePaulo and Cody Gillespie.”

Many groups in Hamilton hold events that benefit charities and individuals in need. Rob’s hope is that more companies will help people struggling with hunger.

Whatever the time of the year, a fundraiser can be a part of any event. Every $1 raised provides $5 in food. Email or download our event form to get started on your fundraising project.

Chuggy’s is located at 388 Barton Street in Stoney Creek.

Next up for Chuggy’s is their annual toy drive for Inasmuch House.
