COVID-19 Emergency Food Response Update

Since the onset of COVID-19, the priority of Hamilton Food Share has been to ensure our member agencies have the food resources they need to continue to provide emergency food services to those in need.

In response to the decrease in food donations to our front line programs as a result of cancelled community events and food drives, Hamilton Food Share has put into motion a weekly bulk purchase of priority non-perishable items.  Thanks to the ongoing support of our donors, we have been able to provide the emergency food network with over $330,000.00 in purchased food on top of our usual volume of donated and purchased food.  This is in addition to the 28,000 prepackaged hampers we received from Feed Ontario to be distributed to housebound residents.

Over the last 2.5 months, we have continued to receive and ship even more food, providing almost 1 million pounds of food to our member agency’s food banks and hot meal programs and to people’s doorsteps through our food delivery program.

The generous support of our donors, community, and corporate partners have allowed Hamilton Food Share to continue to adapt to the changing situation with regard to COVID-19. We continue to work closely with our member agencies to respond to the needs of Hamiltonians in the weeks and months ahead. Thank you for helping us #FeedTheHammer!
