Help Hamilton Community News help those in need

Holiday Food Drive Header

Newspaper group partners with Hamilton Food Share for annual food drive.

Back in March of 2013, 17,069 of our friends and neighbours turned to Hamilton’s food banks to help feed themselves and their families. And while that number is down slightly from March 2012, there is no question that the number of people relying on food banks is still far too high.

To help meet this demand, Hamilton Community News is once again partnering with Hamilton Food Share for a month-long food drive and fundraiser to collect donations of food and to raise awareness about the face of hunger in our community.

Representing the Ancaster News, Dundas Star News, Hamilton Mountain News and Stoney Creek News, Hamilton Community News and its generous advertisers are spearheading an initiative to fill the shelves at Hamilton Food Share and its food bank affiliates throughout Hamilton. Get involved and learn more by reading this special feature in the weekly edition of your community newspaper. Look for the food drive drop-off locations and participating businesses.

Located on Barton Street in Stoney Creek, the large Food Share warehouse collects canned food and fresh vegetables that are distributed to food banks across the community including Good Shepherd Centres, Mission Services, Neighbour to Neighbour Centre, St. Matthew’s House, Stoney Creek Food Bank, Salvation Army, Welcome Inn Community Centre, Wesley Urban Ministries, Stoney Creek Community Food Bank and Living Rock Ministries.

Since it began in 1990, Hamilton Food Share has distributed over 33 million pounds of food to local food banks.
