Spirit of Giving Back at the Annual Food Sorting Day

Volunteers sorting food at the annual sorting day

The holiday season is always an exciting and busy time at Hamilton Food Share.

This year, like every year right before Christmas, the warehouse was packed with volunteers for our annual Holiday Food Sorting Day. The warehouse is decorated, holiday music is playing and staff don antlers, as we welcome volunteers who help pack food for 10,000 hampers that are distributed in time for the holidays.

The mood is festive as people pitch in to help their neighbours. Tim Bolen from Morning Live on CHCH dropped by to see the activity and talk to some of the volunteers and companies dropping off donations. You can see the video he made on the CHCH website.
In only 3 hours, volunteers from ArcelorMittal Dofasco, Shoppers Drug Mart, GrantThornton, Bermingham Foundation Solutions, Infinitee Plumbing and Orlick Industries packed over 21,000 pounds of food. That goes a long way toward making sure that people facing hunger in Hamilton have food this holiday season.

If you would like to see what the Holiday Food Sorting Day looks like, we have a video on our Facebook page so you can see some of the highlights.

All of Hamilton is a part of this remarkable story of generosity. Without the volunteers and people making donations, we simply could not help all the neighbours we do at the holidays and every day of the year.
