A sure sign that spring is on the way is the annual Bulb Show at Gage Park.
Visitors to the City of Hamilton’s free Spring Tide Bulb Show running March 10-19 are asked to bring a healthy food donation for Hamilton Food Share. Healthy staple foods like canned beans, tuna, fruit and vegetables, plus pasta and rice are always in demand.
Hamilton Food Share provides more than 2.4 million pounds of food to 11 Hamilton-area food banks. Hamilton food banks receive an estimated 20,000 visits monthly. Children account for 37 per cent of food bank users.
To encourage younger children to learn more about fruit and vegetables, student volunteers from Mohawk College will be hosting the kids’ play area at the bulb show on Saturday, March 11.
In addition to hosting the food drive, City of Hamilton horticultural staff at Gage Park grow fresh food each summer to donate to Hamilton Food Share.
The Spring Tide Bulb Show is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse, 1000 Main St. E., Hamilton.
